Summer Fairs

American quiltsBusy here at Dorothy Stiven Vintage Homewares getting ready for two Fairs in July. Firstly the fabulous Country Brocante at Petworth Park in Sussex on Saturday 4th July (see more at As it’s Independence Day I will be taking on the American theme with a bundle of finds from the USA. Quilts, pretty feedsacks and samplers will be making an appearance alongside some lovely pictures, rugs and fabrics. Love Sampler

Then on Saturday 11th July we will be back at Barnes Fair with more wonderful things…garden furniture, lovely bedcovers, eiderdowns, pretty vintage dresses and nighties and some very cute things for kids…including cots and toys. Look out for our black and white chequerboard flooring in our usual spot on Crocus Path, stand number 233 (but check programme for Dorothy and Lorna Vintage in case of any change).

Looking forward to catching up with you at both these events!Sewing boxes Love Dorothy x

April update

French School PostersBack from our French trip with all sorts of treasures this month. The washing machine has been whirring away for days and the airing cupboard is full of very pretty floral textiles, monogrammed sheets (I can’t pass by these even though they are becoming more elusive and pricey!), sweet nighties and a batch of cute childrens’s clothes.

I’ve been on the search for quirky things like the school posters on the left and this collection of hats below. I love the care that has been taken to create this minature millinery shop. Also this cute child’s sewing machine took my fancy and I’m sure someone will cherish it as much too!

Our next fair is Kempton on 28 April. Please pop by and see if anything tickles your fancy in our new arrivals. Love Dorothy

The Fairs are starting!

pretty fabricsIt feels like we are almost through the long haul of winter and emerging to get cracking on our upcoming fairs! First up is the gorgeous Great Barrington Art of Vintique Fair on Saturday 21 March which I know will once again be full of wonderful stuff. We will have lots of French and American textiles ready for that, pictures and sweet pieces of furniture. Then I’ll be at Kempton on 31 March with an electic mix of small bits of furniture and piles of lovely textiles. Will post more pictures as I start gathering things together but get in touch if there’s anything you are specifically looking for. I have a trip to France planned for April so will be looking out for linens, pictures, frontons etc there. In the meantime enjoy the primroses and snowdrops popping up and start looking out for some lovely things to freshen up your home and garden for the Spring! Love Dorothy xx Nursing chair

Happy New Year

Pink chair and cushionOn these dark January mornings it’s hard to get motivated to go out looking for vintage gems. However I’ve been at a couple of outdoor fairs recently and despite being knee deep in mud and soaked to the skin I was thrilled with what I managed to find. And the cold seems to bring out the best in Antique sellers, the more miserable it is the cheerier they seem to be!

I am stocking up for my regular fairs (starting in March) and permanent stand at Station Mill Antiques Centre, Chipping Norton. I currently have a good stock of quilts and blankets to keep you cosy and some very pretty vintage fabrics ready for those crafty projects you keep meaning to do!  Some very nice pieces of furniture too will be making an appearance soon.

If there’s anything in particular you are looking for then do drop me an email.

Will post details of upcoming fairs next month. Until then, don’t let the weather put you off…keep hunting. Those treasures are out there!

November news

Teddy on chairI didn’t get a chance to post regarding the A Very Prairie Christmas Fair at the beginning of the month mainly because I didn’t know I was going to be there until a couple of days beforehand! However it was the most gorgeous fair in Chris Myers’ beautiful home and I loved the selection of stalls she had there, a wonderful combination of makes and vintage. It will definitely be on my list for next year and well worth making the journey to Gerrards Cross.

So, now a little lull before Homeworks Christmas Bazaar at the Queens Park Farmers Market, Salusbury School, London NW6 on Sunday 7 December and then on Saturday 13 December I will be at the Vintage and Handmade fair in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall BS37 6AD 10-3pm pretty quilts

Hope you can make it along!

As usual at this time of year we are starting to think about Christmas and seeking out some unusual presents to give to all members of the family. We have also been stocking up on quilts and blankets, dishes for the festive table and gorgeous vintage decorations.

I have a trip to America planned this month so I hope to be bringing back some patchwork quilts too.

Doll's WardrobeHello everyone, hope you have all had a great summer! I know lots of you have been taking the chance to visit fairs and sales in the UK as well as those of you who have sought out those interesting places abroad to feed your Antiquing habit. In France this summer I heard a few British voices at the brocantes I went to, all enjoying the chase, haggling over prices and then wondering how the heck the were going to get that rather large armoire back to the UK!

American Quilts1For those of you who can make it to Queens Park Day (in North West London this Sunday 14th September from noon) you will be able to see what I managed to squeeze into the car next to a very patient spaniel. Lorna and I should be in our usual spot near the bandstand, but if you can’t find us look out for our white gazebo and our chequerboard flooring. We will have our usual mix of painted furniture, linens, paintings, china, lots of sweet childrens’ things, quilts and textiles

Looking forward to seeeing you there!French containers
